A NEW LEAF GALLERY invites the public to join us Friday, November 1st, 5-8pm, to meet our Guest Artists: painter, Ruth Lefko, ceramic artist, Debby Freed, and our featured gallery artist, painter, Jessie Benson.  The exhibits will be on display in the Gallery for November and December.  In addition, two of our gallery artists will display a collaborative project on the "Green Wall" space for the month of November.  Come in to see what David Hall and Jessie Benson have come up with! It's sure to be a pleasant surprise to be unveiled at our November 1, First Friday Reception!

Ruth Lefko

Since Ruth’s retirement from elementary education, she has been exploring her lifelong interest in art.  As an active member of the art community, she has received awards in regional juried shows including the Virginia Watercolor Society and the Central Virginia Watercolor Guild. No matter the style or subject, it is evident she finds joy in the beauty around her and in expressing life experiences through her art. Her work is on display at several locations throughout Southwest Virginia. Visit her website: http://www.ruthlefko.com and Ruth Lefko Art, Facebook.

Ceramics by Debby Freed

Debby lives in Montgomery County, VA with her dog, cat, chickens - and her neighbors' donkeys. She does her clay work in her basement studio, which looks out at the donkey pasture and chicken run. Debby uses slab, pinch pot, coil, and other hand building techniques to create her whimsical, narrative pieces. Appalachian string band musicians and local animals are featured in many of the sculptures.  In addition to clay work, Debby writes fiction, helps others with their writing, and plays banjo with some of the many wonderful southwest Virginia old-time musicians.  See more of her work on the Facebook page for DSF Ceramics or contact her through email – debby.freed@gmail.com

Jessie Benson

Jessie Benson creates beeswax and oil paintings using a technique she originated in 2013.  After applying several layers of beeswax to a cradled board, Jessie carves intricate nature-inspired drawings into the wax and uses oil paint to bring her line work to life.  Jessie often includes her original poetry in her pieces as she explores themes such as love, family, and spiritual growth.

Making her way as a homesteader in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Jessie finds inspiration all around.  She also draws inspiration from her current work as a certified life coach and yoga-meditation teacher as she makes visual representations of the spiritual journey.

A NEW LEAF GALLERY invites visitors to our Fine Arts gallery inside the Station across from the Floyd Country Store.
