A New Leaf Gallery
Features Two New Guest Artists
March thru April
Aven Tanner, Clay Artist and
Chris Bradbury, Landscape and Portrait Painter

A New Leaf Gallery invites you to visit our Fine Art Gallery to enjoy the work of our newest and most talented Guest Artists, beginning March 1st thru April.

Chris Bradbury is landscape and portrait painter who experiments with bright colors and crisp, detailed lines to achieve a sense of fantasy from realistc subjects. “I like painting trees because they provide a subject that is intimately familiar. Much of the time we see the trees and mountains without really seeing them, which provides me a rich territory for exploring shapes and color. It is my hope that when people see my art, they may experience something profoundly recognizable in a new way.” Chris works with watercolor, acrylic, gouache, oil pastel, and colored pencil.

Chris is a graduate student at Radford University.

Aven Tanner works in various mediums, but is most at home working with clay. She remains inspired by the stylized nature designs of the Pueblos people of the Southwest. Like the Pueblos, she works with low fire earthenware clay and hand builds all of her pieces. “I use hand-built methods such as coiling, pinching, sculpting, slab building and pressing textures to create my intuitive pieces. Firing at a low temperature has less environmental impact and I enjoy the challenge of creating the beauty of high fire glazes on low fired clay. I also enjoy treating the surface like a canvas in my use of stains and underglazes. These ancient methods of building with clay and the slow process of creating this way reminds me of my connection to the earth and keeps my winged spirit grounded.”

Aven has been creating, teaching and showing art for the past five years with another local artist at theBlind Cat Studioin downtown Floyd.Aven is a graduate of Radford University with a Bachelor of Science in Art Education and a Bachelor of Fine Art in Ceramics. She has been teaching Art K-12 for 20 years. Currently she teachs at Floyd County H.S.. “I feel so grateful to be teaching Pottery to a diverse group of young people with whom I share my passion for clay.”
