"Whenever I exhibit a piece in this style, I always get asked if it is a printed design or transferred or stretched lace. This piece is entirely hand painted. I first paint the background colors and textures. I let the paint fully dry and then I measure out a few guides to help with balance, symmetry, and outline. I then create the lace like designs by hand with paint markers as well as traditional brushes. I find the process to be meditative, quiet, and calming. This process allows me to paint the detail work outside of my studio space. I am inspired by many images of the past- from hand tatted lace to sacred geometry. The mandala is a spiritual and ritual symbol representing the universal idea that life is never ending and we are all connected."
