Have you ever wanted to do something completely unacceptable and get by with it? That's what this artist was feeling after a year in isolation, so what is sure to become a series of "Life After 50" imaginings was born. Jennifer states this is her all time favorite thus far in all of her nearly 4 decades of drawing with colored pencils. It's wild. It's whimsical. It's decadent. It's naughty. And it WAS delicious! This piece changed course every day! There was no preliminary sketch or anything! Just a grid that was 4 squares by 8 squares, 1 square per intended chocolate, to serve as a guideline where the chocolates and papers could spread and conform to neighboring goodness. The artist first rearranged the chocolates to her liking by color and pattern, then at the start of each work day, took a bite out of the chocolate of the day, positioned its newly revealed contents back in the box, "artistically", then photographed the single chocolate and how it related to its neighbors. How it would progress changed with each bite, each day! Patterns resembling letters inspired her unique signature, "JPC" for Jennifer Phillips Carpenter, the bitten "J" above her initials for "Jane", her late mother's name and her given middle name. The message: don't settle for less than you desire, "Seek and Ye Shall Find".
