"At the Crossroads" by Bronwen Valentine

Reproductions on canvas and paper are available.

"At the Crossroads" is an Appalachian musical instrument portrait. The fiddle plays a leading role in much of the traditional music of the blue ridge mountains. I love its unique sound. In Appalachian folklore the crossroads is a place of supernatural and magical occurrences. The name of this painting is inspired by the poem "The Mountain Whipporwill" by Stephen Vincent Benet. This poem is also the inspiration for the Charlie Daniels Band's "The Devil Went Down to Georgia".
