After a cancer diagnosis, resulting treatment and surgeries it became clear to Selena and her husband Ken they had no time to waste. This hastened a permanent, fulltime move to Floyd and their Happy Place followed by the construction of Selena’s art studio, aka The Happy Shack. This has allowed Selena to follow her teenage dream of being a fulltime artist. Having always been making or drawing “something,” to include illustrations on teaching guides for her seventh grade students, a love affair with pastels and portraits and a brief yet tumultuous period with watercolors, Selena has settled into highly textured acrylic painting, alcohol inks and the exploration of mixed media collage to create her art.Very much inspired by nature, much of what she creates embraces nature’s influence. In fact, weather permitting, you’ll find her on the porch of The Happy Shack, under the walnut tree in the front yard or on the back deck of the Happy Place creating art, tending her many potted flowers or simply enjoying the gift of being alive in the most magical place in the world…her home in Floyd, VA.
