This lock combo was caught by the artist's eye at Mabry Mill. It has many of her favorite things: rust, weathered wood, shiny metal, light and shadow. This was the first of several pieces where she has drawn not only the obvious image, but the mat and frame, TOO! The finished drawing is then mounted to a shallow cradled Ampersand Claybord using double sided archival mounting film, trimmed to size (where precision REALLY matters from conception of the piece, so "frame" corners end up precisely at the corners of the claybord). In the end, the sides of the claybord are painted black and the whole piece is covered in many layers of archival UVLS varnish.
